a laser light source rather than a lamp, which removes the four hundred pound lamp replacement that everybody forgets to budget for

Office equipment is sold on headline numbers that almost nobody can use. A printer quoted at 40 pages a minute is quoting a single sided black page from a warm machine, and the cost that matters is pence per page over five years rather than the price on the box. Every listing here states the real running cost, the monthly duty cycle the machine is actually built for, what the consumables cost and how long they last. Where a cheaper machine would do the job we say so, because the money in this trade is in the consumables and we would rather you knew that from us than worked it out in year two.

Specification

  • Use: a meeting room, a training room or a board room. Screen size is chosen from room depth rather than from budget, and we will do that calculation for you
  • Specification: a heavier duty build with a higher monthly duty cycle and a longer service life, for a machine that works all day rather than occasionally
  • Capacity: room size guidance published per model, in metres of viewing distance rather than in square feet
  • Consumables: none on the laser and display models, which is most of the argument for them. A lamp projector costs three to four hundred pounds every two years and nobody puts that in the business case
  • Connectivity: HDMI, USB-C with power delivery, wireless casting and a network port. Wireless casting is the feature that decides whether a meeting starts on time
  • Running cost: electricity and nothing else on the laser and display models
  • Sustainability: Energy Star certified with an automatic standby, and a take back scheme at end of life. We state the actual certification rather than the word sustainable. For paper that means FSC or PEFC with the chain of custody number on the wrapper. For recycled content it means the percentage. Anything described only as eco friendly is described that way because there is nothing to certify.
  • Delivery: two person delivery, with wall mounting and cable management on the installed option
  • Weight: approximately 35.20 kilograms
  • Warranty: three years on site, next business day response
  • No lamp: the laser and display models have no consumable at all, which is where the saving against a lamp projector actually is
  • Wireless casting: set up at installation for the devices your people use
  • Handover: an hour with the team, included

What arrives

  • the display or projector and its mount or stand
  • the remote, the pens and the connection cables
  • a quick start card and a wall chart for the meeting room
  • installation where the option is chosen

Setting it up

Half a day including mounting, cable management, casting setup and a handover for the people who will actually use it. The handover is the part that matters: a meeting room display nobody was shown how to use gets used as a very expensive monitor.

Which one to buy

Size the screen from the room, not the budget. The usable rule is that the furthest seat should be no more than about six times the screen height away, which for a 65 inch display is roughly five metres. Beyond that, a laser projector or a display beats a lamp projector on total cost inside three years because there is no lamp to replace.
