two sockets and two USB-C outlets in the desk, grommet mounted, which is what stops extension leads across a floor

Office equipment is sold on headline numbers that almost nobody can use. A printer quoted at 40 pages a minute is quoting a single sided black page from a warm machine, and the cost that matters is pence per page over five years rather than the price on the box. Every listing here states the real running cost, the monthly duty cycle the machine is actually built for, what the consumables cost and how long they last. Where a cheaper machine would do the job we say so, because the money in this trade is in the consumables and we would rather you knew that from us than worked it out in year two.

Specification

  • Use: a desk that somebody sits at for eight hours, which is a different specification from one somebody visits
  • Specification: the everyday specification, which covers most offices and is what we would put on a quote unless you told us otherwise
  • Capacity: load ratings stated on the arms and risers, in kilograms and in screen size
  • Consumables: none
  • Connectivity: USB-C with power delivery on the power modules, because a desk module that will not charge a laptop is a socket with extra steps
  • Running cost: none
  • Sustainability: recyclable metal and the packaging is card rather than polystyrene. We state the actual certification rather than the word sustainable. For paper that means FSC or PEFC with the chain of custody number on the wrapper. For recycled content it means the percentage. Anything described only as eco friendly is described that way because there is nothing to certify.
  • Delivery: next working day
  • Weight: approximately 0.80 kilograms
  • Warranty: three years on site, next business day response on the arms and modules
  • Weight range: check the minimum as well as the maximum, because a light screen on a heavy duty arm will drift
  • DSE: the arms and risers here support what a display screen assessment normally recommends
  • Trade: Trade account customers get thirty day terms on approval, a published price file, next day delivery on stocked lines and a named account manager rather than a queue. Ask for it, because we do not upsell it.

What arrives

  • the item as described
  • fixings where the item needs them
  • a reorder card

Setting it up

Ten minutes for an arm. Set the top of the screen at or slightly below eye level with the screen about an arm's length away, which is the whole of the ergonomics and takes thirty seconds to get right.

Which one to buy

A monitor arm is the best value ergonomic purchase in an office, and the specification that matters is the weight range rather than the maximum. An arm rated from 3 to 8 kilograms will not hold a 2 kilogram screen in position, and an arm that drifts is worse than no arm at all. Tell us the screen and we will confirm it.
